Position Overview

The general role of the Mechanical Solar Superintendent is to provide direction, oversight, and general labor to solar panel system projects, along with various other construction, mechanical and industrial projects.  This position requires mechanical knowledge and aptitude, along with a basic knowledge of industrial electrical practices.

 

The Mechanical Solar Superintendent will require a flexible schedule with extensive travel and out-of-town work.  Candidates must be willing to work extended hours to include: weekends, holidays, evenings and possible night shift.   Areas of operations include, but are not limited to: MD, VA, PA, WV, and OH.

What You'll Do

  • Measuring, cutting, assembling, hoisting, anchoring, and placing solar modules and racking
  • Install racking foundation piles within tight manufacturer tolerances
  • Install photovoltaic solar racking and modules in accordance with codes and standards, using drawings, schematics, and installation manuals
  • Maintain high levels of quality assurance and quality control
  • Run conduit and cables from solar panels to combiner boxes
  • Provide communication with Project Managers to ensure work is performed according to specifications
  • Providing physical labor and general labor to trades and to various construction and industrial projects
  • Operate machinery such as but not limited to forklifts, man-lifts, excavators, dozers, and pile drivers
  • Communicate with customers and coworkers in a respectful, professional manner
  • Accountable to continually reinforce safe behaviors and correct at risk behaviors
  • Adheres to and ensures all site team members understand standard operating procedures
  • Ensures new hires receive job-and task-specific training prior to work commencing
  • Prepare T&M tickets, receipts, and other paperwork as required by the job
  • Provide detailed paperwork and documentation such as field reports, revising drawings, etc. to ensure accurate record keeping, billing, and inventory
  • Participate and present in daily POD meetings to discuss daily production updates
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in a professional and workman-like manner
  • Leads and support the site team in technical, quality and safety, utilizing systems in place
  • Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices, and rectifies job site hazards immediately

  • Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Perform duties on-site and underground at industrial locations
  • Work in extreme temperature conditions and environments
  • Perform work at a variety of heights

What You'll Bring

  • 4+ years of mechanical solar installation required, including Single Axis Tracker and Fixed Tilt systems
  • 4+ years of supervisory experience in industrial construction preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be able to lead jobs, follow instructions, multi-task, and meet deadlines
  • Experience running large crews (20+) and tracking daily production
  • Must possess mechanical skills and experience in a wide variety of industrial jobs
  • Possess OSHA 30 or ability to obtain
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing 
  • Experience with customer service preferred
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy, possess a positive attitude
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and work from blueprints
  • Must possess basic math skills including adding, subtracting, decimals, and fractions
  • Experience operating forklift and man-lift preferred
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure
  • Experience installing Fixed Tilt Systems, including but not limited to manufacturers such as APA, NexTracker, TerraSmart, Solar FlexRack, and Schletter preferred
  • Experience installing Single Axis Tracker Systems, including but not limited to manufacturers such as ATI, NexTracker, TerraSmart, FTC, Solar FlexRack, and GameChange preferred
  • Working knowledge of construction software such as Procore
  • Knowledge of industry standard pile refusal and remediation practices preferred
  • Knowledge of pile load testing (compression, lateral, and axial) preferred
