Position Overview

Beitzel Corporation is now accepting applications for a full-time and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator.  The Heavy Equipment Operator should be highly skilled and able to responsibly demonstrate the safe and skillful operation of earth-moving equipment such as excavators, dozers, haul trucks, compactors, loaders, skid steers, bobcats and other pieces of equipment and attachments. Candidate will participate in various types of excavation work to include, but not limited to: large construction, site preparation and development, road work, pad sites, tree clearing and grubbing, underground utility work, grading, trenching, digging, dredging, storm water management, demolition, compaction, slip repair, etc..

 

The Heavy Equipment Operator position will require a flexible work schedule and a willingness to work extended hours to include weekends, holidays, evenings and extensive overnight/out-of-town work as needed. 

What You'll Do

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes and front end loaders to excavate or move dirt, rock, sand, gravel and other materials
  • Responsible for safe slopes on excavations and proper barricading
  • Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging
  • Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards
  • Inspects and maintains equipment as required
  • Digs, spreads and levels dirt, gravel or sand; and, mixes, pours and spreads concrete and asphalt using hand tools
  • Performs a variety of machine and non-machine tasks such as removing forms, placing pipe in trench, jack hammering, tamping, etc.
  • Exercise proper care, maintenance and operation of company equipment
  • Adhere to all Company Safety Policies
  • Performs miscellaneous other duties and responsibilities as required

Working Conditions

  • Regularly walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Perform duties on-site and underground at industrial locations

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum 5+ years of general experience in earthwork and heavy equipment operations
  • Highly skilled in operating dozers and excavators
  • Fine grade experience preferred 
  • Must be able to skillfully operate equipment in a safe, expeditious manner and in accordance with safe practices including the use of proper trench protection (trench box /shield)
  • Must have knowledge of crane/boom signals; safe working loads of equipment; and proper rigging procedures
  • Must have basic knowledge of equipment mechanics and maintenance
  • Ensure equipment is cared for and maintained for efficient and safe daily operations
  • Team-oriented and able to work effectively and efficiently with others
