Position Overview

The general role of a Crane Operator – Field Welding and Mechanical Services is to provide skillful service within the Field Welding and Mechanical Services Group. Crane Operator must possess expertise and skills using both fixed and no-fixed cab cranes. The Crane Operator is expected to physically work with the trade crew to provide welding, mechanical, fit-up, fabrication, and labor as needed. The Crane Operator must possess expertise and skill in precisely moving and placing large objects using cranes and provide basic maintenance and troubleshooting for assigned cranes.  The Crane Operator must be a performance-driven individual with a proven history of customer service.  

 

This individual will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of field welding, crane, and mechanical services operations and services.  The individual must also be proficient with the products and services offered by Beitzel Corporation and willing to work a flexible schedule with extended hours as required.

 

The Crane Operator will report to the Group Manager – Field Welding and Mechanical Services - and will work primarily out of the Beitzel Corporate location.

 

What You'll Do

  • Operate all sizes of cranes per the requirements of the work to be performed.
  • Control the rigging, lifting, moving, and positioning of loads on the crane.
  • Perform critical lifts as required.
  • Observe and make certain loads are safely attached and that weight loads and lifting capacities are within proper limits.
  • Perform routine safety inspections and continuously inspect crane cables and hooks and ensure that worn parts are replaced.
  • Perform lubrication and necessary maintenance of cranes in the field.
  • Perform trouble shooting and repair of cranes.
  • Provide non-certified welding services to construction trades and to various construction, industrial, and mechanical projects.
  • Layout steel for fitting/fabrication.
  • Read welding blueprints.
  • Utilize welding tools, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Respond and provide corrective action for non-routine issues and repairs or issues that cannot be resolved in the field or that would jeopardize operations.
  • Assist in coordination, maintenance, repairs, and additional work with the customer, and division management.
  • Provide daily operations updates to operations management as required.
  • Identify issues and concerns from the field and ensure that a positive relationship exists between the Beitzel field staff, the customer, and Division Management.
  • Prepare time and material (T&M) tickets, receipts, and other paperwork as required.
  • Work on call as needed and demonstrate commitment to the job.
  • Coordinate and assist cross-functional teams to accomplish common goals as required

What You'll Bring

  •  A minimum of 2+ years of crane services experience preferred.
  • NCCCO certification required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of crane service operations is preferred.
  • Mechanical and/or electrical experience preferred- welding experience required.
  • Mastery level with multiple crane associated applications (i.e., wireline, general construction, etc.)
  • Ability to mobilize and operate all sizes of cranes.
  • Ability to develop, document, and perform critical lifts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair most general crane issues preferred.
  • 2+ years of industrial welding experience or trade-school program completion preferred.
  • Experience with fitting and fabrication in industrial applications preferred.
  • Ability to weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Ability to recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, to include cutting torches required.
  • Processes strong mechanical knowledge.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel / lie down
  • Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds unassisted
  • Work in confined spaces
  • Work extended hours and potential shift work
  • Perform duties on-site in all types of weather
  • Breathe effectively while wearing a respirator
  • Wear safety equipment: per OSHA/MSHA requirements including but not limited steel toed and/or metatarsal shoes, hard hat, lanyard, fire retardant, protective eye wear, etc.
