Position Overview

The Assistant Division Manager must have a thorough understanding of all aspects of business management and must be proficient with the products and services provided by Field Services, with the goal of establishing Beitzel Corporation as an industry leader in all areas. The Assistant Division Manager must be available during normal working hours as well as after-hours and weekends to answer calls from customers and employees.

 

The Assistant Division Manager will report to the Division Manager and will work out of the Grantsville location.

What You'll Do

  • Safety: In all actions, the Assistant Division Manager will promote a culture of safety and empower employees to express any safety related concerns, including:
    • Support and promote the stop work obligation and authority of all employees
    • Knowledge of the applicable governing body’s (MSHA/OSHA) safety regulation and Beitzel Corporation Safety policies
    • Working with associated Managers to implement and prioritize safety initiatives.
    • Collaboration on staff training for designated safety sensitive tasks (i.e., operator qualifications, confined space operations, etc.)
    • Monitoring all processes to develop and maintain a culture where all tasks are performed and completed safely.
    • Immediate reporting or directing the report of any incidents, including near misses, to 888-800-7714
    • Continuously monitoring employee communications for areas to emphasize or improve the safety operations of the Company.
    • Participating in (and leading, when necessary) any required disciplinary hearings or other actions, as required, to correct unsafe employee behaviors.

    • As a Manager of the Company, it is critical that the Division Manager strives to carry out the best interests of the Company, including:
        • Promoting Company initiatives (within the business units managed by the Division Manager, from other Divisions, and from Corporate Management) to subordinate staff, customers, vendors, and the general public.
        • Communicating concerns, issues, or grievances to the respective VP for resolution, or to the CEO if resolution has not been achieved.
        • Providing a professional leadership example, following the Culture defined in the Company Core Values.
  • Goal Setting and Long-Term Planning:
    • Each operating Group under the assisting supervision of the Assistant Division Manager shall have the stated goal of being a preferred vendor to the markets and customers that it serves. The Assistant Division Manager will work with the Civil Group to define the stated markets and list the top 5 current customers and the top 5 target customers. Some Groups may have sub-Groups within, which will also require the above customer definition.
    • The Assistant Division Manager will coordinate with the department managers to generate the following goals and associated updates:
        • Annual goals, with quarterly milestones, for the Civil Group.
        • Five-year outlook, with annual milestones, for the Civil Group.
  • Supervision and Scheduling:
    • The Assistant Division Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of the following Field Services positions:
        • Civil Project Managers
        • Civil Estimator
        • Civil Superintendents and Foremen
        • Civil Field Staff
    • For each of the assigned business units, the Assistant Division Manager shall lead and participate in:
        • Performing timecard review and requests for time off. Ensuring that, when applicable, Company systems (i.e., Timekeeper) are being properly utilized to track employee start and stop times.
        • Overseeing the writing, reviewing, and updating of job descriptions for each staff member of the assigned business units.
        • Overall staff management
        • Assisting with and monitoring incentive-based compensation programs.
        • Recommending performance-based, discretionary incentive bonuses.
        • Delegating, supervising, scheduling, and reviewing responsibilities.
        • Participating in annual performance evaluations.
        • Establish clear career paths for employees that are seeking advancement and further opportunity with the Company.
  • Customer Service: This position is responsible for maintaining and developing positive relationships with all current and prospective customers and vendors. Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Creating an environment that supports the Customer Focus Core Value, with both external and internal Customers.
    • Collaborating with other Company Teams on business opportunities and strategies.
    • Communicating regularly with the Sales staff on upcoming opportunities.
    • Monitoring relationships with key customers to verify that Customer needs are being met.
    • Evaluating the relationships with the Company’s supplier network to ensure favorable pricing, understanding of product offering, and to develop joint marketing opportunities.
    • Building and fostering a network of referrals to create new opportunities for revenue growth.
    • Resolving customer complaints by investigating problems and developing solutions.
    • Answering Product-related calls and e-mails from customers as well as internal employees.
  • Financial: The Assistant Division Manager is responsible to inform and promote the financial performance of the Civil Division, while ensuring profitability and cost control goals are being met. Duties include but are not limited to:
    • The Civil Division and any associated projects.
    • Overseeing the establishment of financial performance goals and monitoring systems.
    • Participating in and reviewing the monthly WIP report, prior to submission.
    • Auditing and evaluating project financial performance.
    • Implementing systems, as needed, to improve performance.
    • Providing Corporate Management with information, forecasts and updates on methods being used to improve the profitability/cost control of each operating group.
    • Working with other business units to share lessons learned and to assist in problem solving, as needed.
  • Disciplinary Reporting: The Assistant Division Manager shall promptly report to the Division Manager on any suspected or proven activity that violates the following Company policies:
    • Drug and alcohol
    • Harassment
    • Theft
    • Any other violations that present an immediate threat or that could result in significant Safety risk
  • Quality Management: In conjunction with Quality Control Staff, Operations Managers and Compliance Director, the Assistant Division Manager is responsible for maintaining quality standards and standards of service performance to assure compliance with regulations and specified parameters established by engineering and the customer.
  • Training: In conjunction with other management, this position is responsible for participating in and creating a culture of training. Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Ensuring that subordinate staff is properly trained to Safely carry out their day-to-day job responsibilities and that additional training is obtained when work outside of their core job is performed. This will require the utilization of a skills matrix, which will be maintained with the assistance of Human Resources, Safety, and Electrical staff. The overall management of the skills matrix is the responsibility of the Division Manager and any assigned management staff.
    • Sharing general knowledge and experience is beneficial for the Company.
    • Obtaining necessary training to know, utilize, and promote Company ERP systems.
    • Training staff in proper procedures and facilitating problem solving and constructive communication through regular staff meetings and training.
    • Facilitating training for members and offering advanced training opportunities to team members.
    • Support subordinate members of the Electrical Division to pursue licenses (as applicable) to diversify the Company’s geographical capabilities and to ensure continuity of business and succession planning.
    • Working with Administrative Staff for the tracking of certifications as needed.
  • Signatory, Compensation, and Purchasing Authority Thresholds:
    • The Assistant Division Manager is authorized to approve the following standard operating resources: cell phones, computers, tablets, and credit cards.
    • The Assistant Division Manager is authorized to assign existing resources to designated employees (i.e., vehicles). Such assignments should be updated in Vista.
    • All equipment purchases over $2,500 shall be submitted to the VP of Operations of VP of Projects for approval, along with any required documentation and justification. The Division Manager can sign for any approved purchases.
    • Any equipment rentals, requiring a commitment longer than 3 months or more than $25,000 total in committed spend, shall be submitted to the VP of Operations of VP of Projects for approval.
    • The Assistant Division Manager is authorized to recommend offers of employment, and issue approved offers of employment.
    • and the Assistant Division Manager is authorized to recommend wage increases for standard subordinate operating positions as needed and issue approved wage increases to subordinate employees.
  • Administrative: This position is responsible for the overall activities related to managing the assigned business units. Duties include but are not limited to:
    • Monitoring existing and potential accounts.
    • Reviewing records relating to customers, quotes, sales orders, inventory, etc.
    • Analyzing and reviewing the billing processes and timeliness.
    • Supplying the VP of Operations and VP of Projects with information on customers’ needs, problems, interests, and potential for new products and services.
    • Examining competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, etc.
    • Keeping up to date on market conditions, advertising, and promotional trends through the reading of pertinent literature and consulting with marketing and technical service areas.
    • Keep up to date on Continuing Education for existing licenses.
    • Pursue additional State licenses ( as applicable) for the benefit of the Company to provide a backup for existing license holders or to allow for growth opportunities in new markets.
    • Serving as a mentor and team leader to all areas of the Company.
    • Working with other Division Managers and Operations Management Staff to create and monitor the long-term, strategic growth of the Team.

What You'll Bring

  • 5 years of Civil experience and/or Supervisory experience in Civil projects preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Must have the ability to problem-solve and to determine solutions for customer. Must be results-orientated and able to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Valid driver’s license.
