Beitzel Corporation is now accepting applications for (1) full-time Shop Foreman. The Shop Foreman will supervise the daily activities of fabrication and machining operations to ensure production of high-quality products while maintaining a safe work environment for shop personnel. The Foreman must be available after hours and weekends as needed. He/she will help in the supervision of the Shop Personnel, oversee the day to day operations of the shop, and given the workload and available manpower, when applicable, will actively assist or complete hands-on work.  The Foreman must have a full understanding of fabrication or machining and the processes involved.

This individual will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of industrial fabrication and must be proficient with the products and services offered by Beitzel Corporation and must be flexible and willing to work extended hours as needed. The Shop Foreman will actively work with management to ensure that production goals are met without compromising safety or quality.

 

The Shop Foreman position will work out of the Bittinger and/or Grantsville fabrication shops. Occasional field work may be required. This position will report directly to the Shop Production Manager.    

Responsibilities

  • Pre-plan each assigned project
    • Review drawings and other project specific items before commencement of shop work
    • Ensure materials have arrived for project
    • Determine what order to process materials
  • Plan all work to be performed by shop employees
    • Inform employees what tasks/jobs they will be working on and what order the tasks/jobs are to be performed
    • Ensure material is staged in specific location so employees have material at their workstation when needed.
  • Ensure each employee has all necessary items to perform their task(s)
    • Materials
    • Drawings
    • Specific tools needed for the job
  • Ensure employees are focused on their core duty
    • Ensure employees have the materials they need to perform their duties.
    • Ensure material handling employees are moving materials, not process equipment operators or welders
  • Ensure employees are kept on task
    • Be visible to answer questions
    • Check on employees to ensure
      • Tasks are being performed correctly
      • Employees are in their workstation, working on assigned tasks
  • Ensure products are built to customer expectations/specifications, meeting the highest possible quality standards
  • Assist the Production Manager in identifying and implementing efficiency gains to improve the fabrication or machining processes
  • Maintain project schedules and alert Production Manager of any possible deviations
  • Ensure shop and yard spaces are clean and organized
  • Conduct safety and training meetings and recommend additional needed training to the Production Manager and/or Division Manager

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of shop equipment and fabrication experience
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and software packages including specific knowledge of MS Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience with Structural Steel Management software is a plus.
  • Ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • This position is subject to the Beitzel Corporations Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment, post-accident, random, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow-up testing

 

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift up to 80lbs unassisted
  • Must be safety and customer-focused, without exception
  • Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching and handling of materials.

  1. Must possess a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment
  2.
