    Beitzel Corporation is now accepting applications for a full-time Structural Steel Fitter.  The Structural Steel Fitter is responsible for utilizing drawings to fit and assemble structural steel products for a variety of industrial projects.  This position will participate in the layout and assembly of a multitude of structural components for steel fabrication. The Structural Steel Fitter will directly support initiatives and projects throughout Beitzel Corporation and will report to the Division Manager. 

     

    The Structural Steel Fitter will work out of the Beitzel Fabrication and Machining Office located in Bittinger, MD.  This position will support project initiatives in both the Bittinger and Grantsville Fabrication shops while reporting to the Division Manager. 

    Responsibilities

    • Reads and interprets blueprints
    • Install boilers, containers, and other structures
    • Heat treat parts, using acetylene torches
    • Lift or move materials and finished products, using large cranes
    • Hammer, chip, and grind workpieces in order to cut bend, and straighten metal
    • Lay out and examine metal stock or workpieces to be processed in order to ensure that specifications are met
    • move parts into position manually or by using hoists and cranes
    • Review and analyze specifications
    • Position, align, fit and weld parts to form complete units or subunits following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches and hand tools
    • Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, and/or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting
    • Preheat workpieces to make them malleable, using hand torches or furnaces
    • Coordinate with other team members to ensure quality and schedule are maintained

     

    Qualifications

     

     

    • 3 to 5 years of experience in layout and fit-up of structural steel applications
    • Must exhibit a high-level of professionalism, integrity, and be willing and able to maintain a positive and professional demeanor in representing Beitzel Corporation, without exception
    • Accurately read and interpret blueprints
    • Proficient in a high level of attention to detail
    • Weld and tack structural steel
    • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to represent Beitzel Corporation in a professional, competent and courteous manner
    • Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams to accomplish common goals
    • Ability to prioritize projects effectively
    • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
    • Must be able to effectively adapt to ever-changing and ever-emerging customer needs
    • Preference will be granted to applicants with  practical hands-on field experience

    • Must be able to sit for long periods of time

    • Required safety equipment: Steel toe and/or metatarsal shoes, protective eye wear, hard hat, hearing protection, protective goggles, masks, face shields, gloves, etc.

     

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

    1. Must possess a valid state driver’s license prior to employment
    2.
